Star Gazer

Staring up at the stars tonight, I see Hercules
Standing out like he’s trying to tell me something, like he’s trying to say
I fought tooth and nail for what was rightfully mine
I was pushed down again and again but I made it
Look, I got where I wanted to go
You will too
And I see that, I hear that from him because hundreds or thousands of years ago a human being somewhere made up a story
A story of overcoming obstacles, of being pushed down and yet standing up stronger
They felt what a feel now, in a different time, a different place, a whole other existence
We talk about human nature like we have a primary claim to it,
When in fact we are descendants of the men and women who created this world for us
They looked into the sky and saw more potential than we could imagine
Now I can look up and see their legacy, and see that deep down we are all in sync
We know each other to the core,
Though we refuse to see that
We see only the differences, but somehow not the ones we share
I look up and every satellite is a leap in our mutual consciousness
Our life span is not long enough for individual wisdom,
But together we can be wise
I look up
And every shooting star is a piece of space junk, but also a soul leaving this world, a little matchbox girl
Or a dream finally coming true
I look up and see
That together we could save the world
We don’t need help from gods or guardians in the sky
We just have to keep getting back up
